Ice Weed

I was beginning to think it wasn't going to get cold enough for the ice weed to "bloom".
It is a great addition to the garden. Even though it's real blooms are not all that much to look at, they do attract a lot of different butterflies and the winter "blooms" are great.

There is no end to the different shapes and swirls that they produce.
I inspect them every year and am dazzled and amazed by their formations.
I have read several different theories on how the ice forms but none seem logical to me.
It is so very fragile and will just crumble if squeezed at all.

I have come to the conclusion that it is magic, natures magic and I'll just leave it at that.

  1. I've been looking for this at nurseries and can't find any. I see it roadside places, but so far none where it was safe enough to stop. Long story short, I am happy-happy to enjoy the ice blooms in your post from my warm perch with a cup of hot coffee in hand.

So gorgeous! Great photos and thank you for sharing a little magic today. I needed it!

  3. I've never heard of ice weed. That's pretty cool. Looking at those interesting formations would give me a reason to venture out on a cold morning. Lately. I've just been hibernating waiting for things to warm up.

  5. Verbesina virginica, or frost weed, is one of those plants I've always wanted in my garden, but agree with Texas Deb it's been impossible to find. As you mentioned, Bob, it's an exceptional nectar source for bees and butterflies and the "flowers" are a wonder.

  7. Having a lake improves your greenery enclosure from various perspectives. Lakes are both tastefully satisfying and useful for pulling in a wide range of untamed life to your patio nursery. What's more, on the off chance that you include a water highlight, the delicate sound of foaming water can add an exceptionally unwinding component to your patio nursery. Here are a couple general tips on the most proficient method to make and keep up a greenhouse lake and what kind of plants you can develop in and around it.

  8. To know how to catch crappie in the spring you must first follow their migration from where they are in the winter. This is how you figure out where in the world they are when they are not shallow as you thought they would be.
